Die Zeit 01.09.05 - 30.11.05 Remade newspapers (inkjet onto newsprint) This is a piece of work made on a twelve week residency in Dilsberg, Germany. Die Zeit (The Time) is a weekly German newspaper which I collected over the twelve weeks. At the end of that period, I remade the newspapers to be 25% smaller for each week, working backwards so the most distant newspaper was the smallest and the current newspaper was actual size. By coincidence, the drama following the 2005 German election unfolded in that time; a coalition government was formed but there was an impassioned debate about whether Gerhard Schröder or Angela Merkel should be Chancellor. In a stroke of good fortune, this was resolved in the final week and the actual size copy of Die Zeit shows all the players of the debacle gathered together on the front page, as if in the final act of a play. |
