The Messenger / The Reversal of Fortune

A reversible book, 15cm x 21cm, edition of 500

Both stories in the reversible book are 1500 words long.

2004

Set in the future at the time of writing, both stories take place during the 2004 Athens Olympics. The stories are set in different places but end at the same point in time, just as they meet physically in the middle of the book. The book is loosely based on the true story of American discus thrower Robert Garnet, who, against all expectations, defeated the Greeks in the first modern Olympics in 1896. As he was left-handed, his photograph was often mistakenly printed back-to front, showing him with the discus in his right hand but with the US flag apparently stitched to his vest the wrong way round.
